Why it matters.

Biodiversity loss is one of the most acute crises we are facing, and species are going extinct faster than ever before in history. Reversing the trend of biodiversity loss is urgently needed to sustain healthy and resilient ecosystems.

What it is about.

This cause supports a wide range of urgent actions needed to restore habitats, and protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species. We also believe that research and new technology can greatly assist in addressing the biodiversity crisis.

Our organization focuses on the protection of wild large carnivores, such as lions and cheetahs, since protecting them has a positive cascade effect on their entire ecosystem.

The work being done within the cause.

Protecting flagship species, by protecting and restoring their habitats and preventing poaching and illegal wildlife trade. For example, the Zambian Carnivore Programme, helps to protect large carnivores through community outreach; patrols the area with their anti-poaching team; and monitors the carnivores, their habitat and their prey.

Protecting pollinators, by rewilding and rebuilding ancient wildflower meadows and other pollinator habitat. For example, Buglife works to protect native bee species, by planting wildflower meadows that bloom longer and provide shelter for rare Northern bee species.

Mitigating emergencies and threats, through disaster relief for animals and nature. For example, the Hirola Conservation Programme, providing water, fodder and other resources for wild animals, livestock and humans in the drought-stricken area along the Kenya-Somali border.

More about the Season of giving.

Together with our strategic partner Milkywire we have established four causes, grouped together in thematic areas: oceans; forests and open landscapes; wildlife and biodiversity; environmental defenders. The causes have been defined based on our Give One Impact framework.  We are engaging our consumers to help distribute $1M of our 1% pledge money across these four environmental causes, this Holiday season, read more about the campaign here.
